Berries with Limoncello, Basil and Mint

IMG_5219When the southern blueberries start coming in, the strawberries are still in season and your herbs of mint and basil have reached some fullness, there is a dessert that blends all of these perfectly.   It is made all the more perfect by a splash of Limoncello – a lemony liqueur usually of Italian origin.

Here is:

Berries with Limoncello, Basil and Mint 

  • An assortment of strawberries and blueberries
  • a splash (1-3 T) of Limoncello
  • sugar syrup or a sprinkling of white sugar
  • basil
  • mint

From your garden, gather as many leaves of spearmint or peppermint and basil as you like.  Roll these and cut in a chiffonade fashion.

Wash your blueberries and strawberries.  Slice the strawberries.  Throw all into a bowl.  Add the chiffonade of basil and mint.  Add a bit of sugar syrup.  Add the Limoncello to taste, but don’t go too wild; a little goes a long way.

It is so easy to grow herbs in pots right outside your door.  Or, perhaps you prefer indoors in a sunny window.  Do it.  Herbs are the variety that is the spice of life!
